About me

artista plástica, visual artist

Madrid, 1996

J’écris pour retenir,
je peins pour fuir.
Tant pis si l’écriture est mauvaise,
personne ne la lira jamais.
Or ma peinture est censée
être vue, jugée,
même un jour admirée.
J’epère…

Inés Rubio Roa – Visual Artist

Artistic Vision

I am a visual artist and contemporary painter based in Madrid. From my studio, I seek to create a dialogue between the classical aesthetics of painting and the narratives of modernity. My work has a language of its own, where the everyday, the dreamlike, and the emotional converge in harmony. My practice is an active contribution to the contemporary Spanish art landscape, and my goal is to build a visual universe of my own.

My Pictorial Language

In my works, I address the intricate relationship between reason and absurdity, the material and the imaginary, what we are and what we remember – always with a symbolic gaze, often nostalgic and poetic. Through this language, I seek to give meaning to the seemingly trivial, inviting the viewer to pause and pay attention to what usually goes unnoticed.

Figurative Content and Pictorial Process

My work has a strong figurative and pictorial component. This approach is not a simple nostalgic return, but a representational tool to create something honest and emotionally resonant. The creative process always begins with a vague idea, without definition or limits – a faint vision of a concept that gradually takes shape as I process it on the canvas. I use oil on canvas as my main technique, often combined with embroidery and mixed media. I always strive for excellence in detail.

Training, Evolution and Search for Style

My dual background in Fine Arts and Architecture has given me an understanding of the concepts behind artistic movements, which fuels my own creative practice. My work is structured in series, understood as open systems of investigation where each piece is an argument and each series is born from the questions left open by the previous one. I continuously incorporate new materials, forms of expression and techniques that represent me.

The Dialogue Between Art and the Observer

I firmly believe in the power of painting to create spaces for reflection and wonder in everyday life. My work seeks to open a dialogue with the viewer and challenge their perception of reality. This interaction is fundamental to my practice. I want the spectator to feel an immediate connection – for their own memory or experience to resonate with the symbolic elements on the canvas.

Recent Work

In recent years my work has evolved towards a more structural investigation, incorporating embroidery as an active material within the image and exploring the coexistence of opposing elements on a single surface. This evolution is reflected in my most recent series, shown in galleries in Madrid and Coruña and at fairs such as Art Madrid.

Purpose of Art

Pictorial art has the unique ability to reveal all its content in a single instant. Painting is, in essence, a way to articulate my inner universe and share it with the world around me; it is the meeting point between individual imagination and collective reality.
